The email went unread, so an AI voice agent called the employees

A large employer in Mexico asked whether an AI voice agent could phone its employees with company news, because, the client said, nobody read the email. About 70% of this client’s employees answered the call.

Nobody was reading the email

This is a real case from one of my clients. The company is under NDA, so I can’t name it. I can tell you it’s a large employer in Mexico with tens of thousands of employees, and that it wanted to diversify the channels it used to talk to them.

They came to me with what they needed to get across: company news and events, and every HR moment employees should know about.

All of it went out by email, and in their words, nobody reads email. Everyone’s busy, the message lands in the mailbox with everything else and just gets lost.

Could an AI agent call everyone?

So they asked me whether they could call their employees, with an AI agent phoning each person about an event coming up, a change in the company they should know about, or maybe a weather problem people should be careful about.

I said yes.

Technically, these are outbound calls, the kind we describe on our AI outbound calling page, except that here the people picking up were the client’s own staff.

What happened when the agent called

At this company, about 10% of employees read the emails. Far fewer clicked on anything or did anything with them.

On the phone, about 70% of this client’s employees answered the AI agent’s call.

And they listened: this client’s average call lasted more than a minute, long enough for the agent to give people the information and interact with them.

Where these figures come from

These are one client’s results as I give them, rounded: about 10% of employees read the email, about 70% answered the call, and the average call lasted more than a minute. The client is a large employer in Mexico and it’s under NDA, so I can’t name the company or its sector, and I’m not giving the period the figures cover. It’s one company, and I wouldn’t use these numbers to predict what another company will get.

What I take from it

It means the AI agent could inform people and interact with them, and it was a great way to improve communication inside the company. I can’t publish the client’s name, but I still think it’s a really good case, which is why I wanted to write it up.

Frequently asked questions about calling employees with an AI voice agent

Can an AI voice agent call employees with company news?
Yes. In the case I describe here, a large employer in Mexico had an AI voice agent phone its employees with the company news and HR information it had been sending by email, and about 70% of them picked up.
Why call employees when the company already sends email?
Because the email wasn’t being read. At this client, about one employee in ten read the messages, and far fewer clicked or interacted with them.
How long did employees stay on the call?
For this client, more than a minute on average, long enough for the agent to pass on the message and interact with the employee.
Which company was the client?
I can’t say. The client is under NDA, so the article names neither the company nor its sector.
