An interactive voice response system asks the caller to classify their own problem before anyone listens to it. A voicebot asks them to describe it.

Menus are written from the inside out. They use department names and they run in the order that suits the business, not the caller. Anyone with an unusual problem picks the closest option, lands in the wrong queue and gets transferred. Unless somebody is checking mis-routes against the wording that caused them, the menu stays as it is.
Every new service adds an option, and every option adds time before a human voice is reached. Deep menus push people to press 0, hang up, or wait for the general queue anyway, which is the outcome the menu was built to avoid. A caller who abandons the menu leaves no record of what they wanted.
The argument is different at each end of the market. The technology is the same.
Clinics, trades, agencies and local services usually run everything through a single number: bookings, prices, opening hours, suppliers, deliveries. Speech recognition flattens it: the caller states the reason for the call once, and the voice service either resolves it or routes it with the context attached, so whoever picks up is not starting the conversation from nothing.
Speech recognition is not automatically an upgrade. Some lines should keep the keypad, and some calls should not stay with an agent at all.
If the line has two destinations and callers always know which one they want, a two-option menu already does the job, and a pressed digit cannot be misheard the way a spoken sentence can. Keep the keypad where the choice is genuinely binary. Keep it as a fallback too, for noisy lines and for callers who cannot speak freely where they are standing.
The agent answers from the material you give us, so the accuracy of your line is the accuracy of your documentation. Where a fact is missing it should say so and hand off rather than fill the gap. Keeping prices, hours and service rules current is ongoing work, not a task that ends at launch.
An upset caller, a complaint, or anything needing authority to decide goes to a person with the context carried over, and we agree those boundaries with you before the agent takes a live call. Every scenario needs a route out to a human. A line with no way out is just a voice menu with better manners.
